WHAT TO EXPECT

 

Initial meetings:

Our first few meetings will be all about building a trusting and warm relationship based around your needs. We will discuss the therapeutic process, get to know each other, fill out paperwork, discuss expectations, and define what our focus will be in our work together. We will spend time defining specific, measurable, and attainable goals. We will also discuss objectives needed for meeting your goals. We will review your current emotional/social functioning, coping skills and strategies that are helpful and identify ways of changing other ways of coping that may negatively affect your mental health.

Working towards goals:

After we have established goals and objectives, our meetings will be focused on all the ways we can work towards your goals. This is where we will review all the aspects of your life that contribute negatively or positively to your mental health.  Negative thought patterns, behaviors, and relationship interactions will be challenged and restructured. Self-care activities will be reviewed and shifted to help you work towards achieving a more balanced life. New coping skills and strategies will be identified and experimented with. We will review efforts each week and relish in successes and/or game plan around barriers and setbacks that prevent progression. Each session will start with a space for you to discuss, vent, and process the previous week’s events before diving into our work.

Maintaining positive changes:

As you are experiencing positive changes in your life, we will focus on maintaining these changes. These sessions will be focused on ways to continue success, learning to reset and refocus after setbacks, and continue the change process without my support. Sessions may be reduced in frequency as you are seeing change and feeling more confident.

Preparing for, and ending:

After we are both comfortable with the progress and changes experienced in your life, we will discuss ending services. We will discuss the ways you have met your goals. Together, we will plan for the use of coping skills and strategies for managing future struggles. We will review successes and celebrate your efforts and improvements.
